We Tried Them for You - Birilli

In April, we went to the Birilli Restaurant at 6 Strada Comunale Val San Martino in Turin. It's the first establishment opened by Piero Chiambretti in the hills of Turin. We were greeted with a warm smile by the staff, who were young and dressed in white uniforms with a logo on the back, immediately demonstrating their focus on service and customer satisfaction.

The restaurant is named after the Birilli brothers, famous restaurateurs from Cuneo who made their fortune in Los Angeles in 1929. Later, their descendants opened restaurants in Paris and Alexandria, Egypt, achieving the same success.

Upon entering, you can already see the style of the place, which is confirmed in the spacious hall where the tables are set with white tablecloths. Photos of memories of the Birilli brothers, with famous international film characters, are displayed on all the walls. On the right, a large window reveals to customers the garden where the aromatic herbs used by the chef for his creations are grown. In the summer, there is the possibility to dine in the inner courtyard, near the garden.

We opted for a "Mixed Appetizer," with vitello tonnato, Bra sausage, and whipped cod, served on a single plate with taste and delicacy: I was impressed by the freshness of the ingredients used; the appetizers could also be ordered individually.

For the first course, we tried the "Birilli" (bowling pin-shaped pasta, with fondue and guanciale) and "Ravioli di Polenta Concia," with gorgonzola fondue and crispy guanciale. The menu also featured "Pierino Spaghetti, simple but special," in honor of Piero Chiambretti, using Felicetti single-grain spaghetti.

For the main course, we had the "Schiacciatissima," classic breaded steak served with tomato and arugula. From the menu, it was also possible to order "Veal Tagliata," "Piglet Fillet with Herbs," or "Seared Salmon."

Desserts ranged from the classic Bonet, but in the "Bonet Birilli" version, to tasting ice creams and sorbets, including the "Pierino in Saint Tropez" dessert, which attracts the attention and imagination of the customer due to the absence of description and photo.

The wine list was comprehensive, with white, rosé, and red wines. To accompany our dishes, we chose a Gewürztraminer Brigl from the Windegg vineyard, a white wine with D.O.P.

The menu also offered "Grill dishes," with burgers and grills of all kinds, or "Traditional Menu" or "Birilli Menu" at a fixed price.

The delicious food, impeccable service, and cozy atmosphere make it a must-visit for anyone visiting the city.
