If you're looking for an easily accessible hike — surrounded by nature and rich in history — the trail to Rifugio Willy Jervis is just what you need. Located in the heart of the upper Val Pellice, this route is a hidden alpine gem in the Piedmont region.

Getting There
The starting point of this hike is the small hamlet of Villanova, located in the municipality of Bobbio Pellice (TO). Simply enter “Villanova – Bobbio Pellice” into your GPS to reach the trailhead directly. You’ll find parking either in the large paved lot near the village or along the adjacent gravel road.
⚠️ Important note: The municipality of Bobbio charges a daily parking fee of €3.
The Trail
The hike begins in Villanova, a picturesque hamlet nestled among forests and waterfalls. The trail initially follows a well-maintained old mule track, climbing steadily — great for gaining elevation quickly. After about 30 minutes, you’ll reach a wide dirt road where the gradient becomes gentler and the views more expansive.
One of the highlights is a stop at the Pis Waterfall, an ideal spot to cool off, especially during summer months. From there, you can either follow the road or, if you're more experienced, take steeper side trails that cut through the switchbacks (not recommended in snowy or icy conditions).
The route continues toward the broad plateau known as the Conca del Pra, a stunning open area with views of Monviso and the mountain peaks that mark the French border. The trail culminates at the scenic Rifugio Willy Jervis, located at 1,732 meters above sea level.

A Mountain Refuge Steeped in History
Rifugio Willy Jervis was inaugurated in 1950 in memory of Willy Jervis — an engineer and resistance fighter who lost his life in 1944. In 1976, the refuge was completely destroyed by fire, but thanks to the dedication of many volunteers, it was rebuilt in its original style.
Since 1979, the hut has been managed by Roby Boulard, a seasoned mountain guide who has made it a much-loved destination for hikers and mountain enthusiasts from near and far.
Today, Rifugio Jervis is open year-round, welcoming guests with warm hospitality, honest homemade cuisine, and a cozy, family-like atmosphere. If you’re planning a winter hike, it’s advisable to check ahead for trail conditions and any avalanche risks.
