What to do in Turin in September 2026: events, music, sport and Terra Madre

September is one of the busiest months of the year in Turin.

As summer comes to an end, the city comes alive again with festivals, major sporting events, music, cultural activities and international events. The September 2026 calendar includes the Salone Auto Torino, MITO SettembreMusica, Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, the Men’s European Volleyball Championship, the Sebago Rowing Cup and the European Researchers’ Night.

If you are planning to spend a few days in Turin, September can therefore be a great time to combine sightseeing with one of the many events taking place across the city.

MITO SettembreMusica 2026: Turin and Milan connected through music

6–20 September 2026

September in Turin begins with one of the city’s most important musical events of the year.

MITO SettembreMusica celebrates its twentieth edition in 2026 and once again connects Turin and Milan through a programme of concerts hosted in theatres, auditoriums, churches and other venues across the two cities.

The theme of this year’s edition is “Harmonia”.

It is also the first programme curated by the festival’s new artistic director, Speranza Scappucci, who approaches harmony not simply as the absence of conflict, but as the ability to bring different voices, generations, repertoires and perspectives into dialogue.

The programme spans different periods and musical languages, bringing together Baroque music, classical repertoire, twentieth-century works and contemporary creations.

In Turin, concerts will take place in a number of venues across the city, including the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi, Lingotto, Teatro Vittoria and Casa del Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani.

Another appealing aspect of the festival is its accessibility: many concerts are available at relatively low ticket prices, with several performances costing €7, €10 or €15, as well as some free events.

Salone Auto Torino 2026: the city centre becomes a large open-air exhibition

11–13 September 2026

For three days, cars, prototypes and the latest developments in the automotive world return to the heart of Turin with the Salone Auto Torino.

The exhibition stretches across Piazza Castello, Piazzetta Reale and the gardens of the Royal Museums, turning part of the historic city centre into a large route dedicated to the world of motoring.

The 2026 edition brings together international and Italian car manufacturers, as well as important names from the world of automotive design.

Admission is free of charge, and no advance registration is required.

The Salone is also a great opportunity to discover Turin from a different perspective, as some of the city’s most famous monumental squares become an integral part of the event.

Festival dell’Accoglienza 2026

11 September–30 October 2026

September in Turin is not only about major events and entertainment.

From 11 September, the Festival dell’Accoglienza returns for its sixth edition.

The theme for 2026 is:

“La mitezza è disarmante. Un’altra idea di coraggio”which can be translated as “Gentleness is disarming. Another idea of courage.”

The programme includes talks, films, performances, workshops and opportunities for discussion around topics such as inclusion, migration, coexistence, dialogue and community-building.

Events will take place across different venues in Turin throughout September and October.

Compared with some of the city’s larger events, the festival is less tourist-oriented, but that is precisely what makes it interesting for visitors who want to discover a more social and cultural side of Turin.

Sebago Rowing Cup: university rowing on the River Po

18–20 September 2026

The River Po also takes centre stage in Turin’s September events calendar.

From 18 to 20 September, the Sebago Rowing Cup returns for its second edition.

The event brings the atmosphere of international university rowing to the Murazzi, offering a contemporary interpretation of the traditional rivalries between colleges and universities.

The sporting highlight is the series of rowing races on the river, set within a wider three-day programme.

It is also a good opportunity to explore one of Turin’s most attractive areas, from Parco del Valentino and the Murazzi to the riverside paths along the Po.

EuroVolley 2026: Volleyball-Europameisterschaft im Palavela

20–23 September 2026

September will also be an important month for international sport.

Turin is one of the Italian host cities for the CEV EuroVolley Men 2026, the Men’s European Volleyball Championship.

The tournament takes place across Italy, Bulgaria, Finland and Romania.

In Turin, matches will be held at the Palavela, which will host both round of 16 matches and quarter-finals.

For volleyball fans, this is one of the best opportunities of the year to watch some of Europe’s strongest national teams live.

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2026 returns to central Turin

24–27 September 2026

The second half of September is dominated by one of Turin’s signature events: Terra Madre Salone del Gusto.

The sixteenth edition returns to the heart of the city with a large open-air market spread across several squares, together with hundreds of events dedicated to food, biodiversity, local communities and territories.

The market will involve some of Turin’s best-known central locations, including:

The event brings together producers from Italy and around the world and offers conferences, tastings, “Laboratori del Gusto”, talks and food-related activities.

Alongside the main event, Terra Madre Off will also take place, with additional activities across Turin and Piedmont.

Turin and international cooperation during Terra Madre

Terra Madre is not only a food event.

It is also an opportunity to explore themes linked to international cooperation and sustainable development.

The City of Turin will take part with the programme “Nutrire le città del mondo”, or “Feeding the cities of the world”, dedicated to the relationship between food systems, cities and international cooperation.

The programme will include events focusing on cooperation between Piedmont and other parts of the world, including projects involving Ivory Coast.

25–26 September 2026

On the same weekend as Terra Madre, Turin will also host one of the most important events dedicated to science communication.

The European Researchers’ Night – UNIGHT celebrates its twentieth edition in 2026.

Since 2006, the initiative has brought research outside universities through experiments, workshops, performances, games and public activities.

In Turin, many of the events will take place in and around Parco del Valentino.

The event is particularly suitable for families, children and teenagers, thanks to the many interactive and practical activities designed to make science more accessible.

September 2026: one of the best months to visit Turin

The first half of the month will be shaped above all by MITO SettembreMusica and Salone Auto Torino.
